Dolphy dies and has just passed away as Zsa Zsa Padilla has confirmed to ABS-CBN news that the Comedy King died, Dolphy has passed away. He was 83 years old of this breaking breaking news: Comedy King Dolphy is dead. Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. in real life) was pronounced dead at 8:34 p.m. today, July 10, at Makati Medical Center where he was confined due to due to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Dolphy was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)in 2009. In his autobiography "Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Ng Mag-Isa," Dolphy said he has always been ready to face his Maker.

On June 16, 2012, he was admitted at the Makati Medical Center after complaining of shortness of breath.

Dolphy was struck by pneumonia and had to undergo blood transfusions. There were repors that his illness developed into a toxic metabolic encephalopathy that may have led to sepsis or the poisoning of the blood.

He started to undergo dialysis on June 21, 2012.

"The inevitable will come. Kung dumating na ang oras mo, hindi ka na kokontra, wala ka nang magagawa. It's your time. Sabi nga nila, alam mo, 'pag malapit na. You feel it," he was quoted saying.

The King of Comedy also revealed that he already bought his own coffin.

"Matagal na itong chismis; I will confirm it. Mayro'n na nga akong kabaong bronze. No'n ko pa kinuha. Isa din ako sa kauna-unahang bumili ng family estate plan sa Loyola Memorial Park sa Marikina," he said.

According to initial reports, the real cause of Dolphy’s death is Boneitis, a severe bone disease that is fatal if uncured or untreated. It causes the body to contort as the bones snap.

The King of Comedy was supposed to celebrate his 84th birthday on July 25.

Dolphy was widely regarded as the Philippines’ “King of Comedy” for his comedy prowess embodied by his long roster of works on stage, radio, television and movies.

Dolphy won Best Comedy at the PMPC Star Awards for TV for “Home Along Da Riles,” “John En Marsha” and “John En Shirley.”

Dolphy’s career in entertainment as a comedian—on stage, radio, television, and movies—lasted for more than six decades. He is survived by Padilla and his 18 children.
